PUBLIC NOTICE - Notice of a Public Hearing to consider proposed rate increases of sewer service fees and plant investment fees
The Board of Directors will hold a public hearing at 7:00 p.m. on November 17, 2020 by zoom.us (invitation below) at which time the Board of Directors of Granby Sanitation District will consider proposed rate increases to be effective January 1, 2021.
- Quarterly sewer service fees will increase from $96.00/quarter/single-family equivalent ($32.00/month) to $111.00/quarter/single-family equivalent ($37.00/month).
- Plant investment fees will increase from $8,500.00/single-family-equivalent to $9,690.00/single-family equivalent.
Sewer service fees were last increased on January 1, 2014 and Plant Investment Fees were last increased on April 12, 2012. Granby Sanitation District does not generate or receive any tax revenues and operates only on its fees for service.
An outside consultant consultant conducted a rate study, which can be viewed here. This study demonstrated that sewer service fees need to increase to fund increased operating and maintenance expenses and replacement and repair of aging infrastructure. The District expects a number of increasingly stringent treatment standards (effluent temperature limits, metals and nutrient removal) from regulatory agencies which will necessitate additional treatment capabilities. Plant investment fees will need to increase to fund capital improvements and expansion of treatment capacity.
***************************************************************
Granby Sanitation District operates on a lean budget without losing sight of the need to protect the District's infrastructure as well as planning for the future needs of the District. The effluent for the Granby area is discharged to the Fraser River, a headwater tributary to the Colorado River, both of which face water quality and quantity challenges. The District's wastewater treatment standards are high and expected to become even more stringent in the future. The operating and maintenance costs of operating an advanced wastewater treatment facility are considerable and continue to increase.
It is certainly recognized that fee increases impact the District's customers, however it is necessary in order to keep up with the ever-increasing expense of operating, maintaining and improving wastewater treatment facilities. It is the District's hope that our customers value the high-quality wastewater treatment provided to protect the water quality of the Fraser and Colorado Rivers.
